SPECIALIST POWDER-COATING COURSE

Stage 2 – Powder Coating

Develop a controlled powder-coating workflow for alloy wheel finishing.

1 day£595 + VAT

COURSE OVERVIEW

Develop a controlled powder-coating workflow for alloy wheel finishing.

A focused one-day specialist course covering the practical principles behind powder coating alloy wheels. The programme is designed for learners who already understand the importance of preparation and now want to develop a more controlled approach to powder application, curing, finish consistency and fault diagnosis.

Powder coating is only as good as the surface, setup and process behind it. Stage 2 concentrates on the decisions that affect the finished wheel: preparation quality, cleanliness, grounding, powder behaviour, coverage, film build, curing requirements and the common causes of finish defects. The aim is to help learners move away from guesswork and towards a repeatable process.

WHO IT'S FOR

Designed for people serious about developing professional wheel skills.

✓

Alloy wheel refurbishers wanting to add or improve powder-coated finishes.

✓

Bodyshop or coating technicians moving into wheel-specific powder coating.

✓

Businesses considering powder-coating equipment and wanting practical process knowledge.

✓

Stage 1 learners progressing into a specialist finishing process.

✓

Existing operators who want to improve consistency and troubleshooting.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

What this course is designed to help you develop.

Some understanding of wheel preparation is strongly beneficial. If you are completely new to refurbishment, Stage 1 is the recommended foundation before specialising in powder coating.

01

Understand the relationship between preparation quality and powder-coat finish quality.

02

Set up the work area and component with attention to cleanliness and effective grounding.

03

Understand powder flow, attraction, coverage and the effect of application technique.

04

Recognise difficult areas, edges and shapes that can create inconsistent film build.

05

Follow powder/manufacturer curing requirements rather than relying on visual guesswork.

06

Identify common defects and trace likely causes back to preparation, application or curing.

07

Develop a repeatable inspection routine before a finished wheel leaves the coating process.

COURSE CONTENT

A detailed look at the training programme.

01

Process Overview

Understand where powder coating sits within a complete wheel-refurbishment workflow and why every preceding preparation stage matters.

02

Surface Readiness

Review cleanliness, preparation quality and contamination risks before powder is introduced.

03

Grounding & Setup

Cover the practical importance of component grounding, positioning, equipment setup and creating conditions for consistent powder attraction.

04

Application Technique

Work through gun movement, distance, coverage, edges, recesses and building an even coat without simply chasing visual opacity.

05

Film Build & Difficult Areas

Understand why complex wheel shapes can coat unevenly and how application technique can be adjusted to improve consistency.

06

Curing Principles

Follow the powder manufacturer’s specified cure requirements and understand why oven air temperature and actual component temperature are not always the same thing.

07

Finish Inspection

Review gloss/appearance consistency, coverage, contamination, texture and other signs that the process needs adjustment.

08

Troubleshooting

Discuss common defects and practical causes, including poor preparation, contamination, grounding issues, application inconsistency and incorrect curing.

COURSE STRUCTURE

How the training is organised.

Morning

Preparation, Setup & Application

Process review, component readiness, grounding, equipment setup, powder behaviour and guided application.

Afternoon

Curing, Inspection & Troubleshooting

Curing principles, finish assessment, typical defects, corrective thinking and building a repeatable workflow.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Stage 2 Powder Coating FAQs

Is this a beginner powder-coating course?

It can introduce the process, but it is most valuable when you already understand wheel preparation. Complete beginners should consider Stage 1 first.

Do you teach one specific powder brand?

The emphasis is on transferable process principles. Individual powders still need to be used in line with their own technical data and cure requirements.

Will the course cover curing temperatures?

It covers how to work from the coating manufacturer’s cure schedule and why component temperature and process control matter. It does not replace the technical data supplied with the powder you use.

Does the £595 course fee include VAT?

The course fee is £595 plus VAT. WooCommerce will apply tax according to the store’s configured tax rules at checkout.

What happens after booking?

You choose a Monday–Friday training date before adding the course to your basket. WooCommerce then records that date with your booking and customer details.
