COURSE OVERVIEW

Build the practical foundations of professional alloy wheel refurbishment.

A five-day practical programme designed for people who want a structured introduction to professional alloy wheel refurbishment. The course follows the refurbishment journey from initial wheel assessment and preparation through repair preparation, refinishing, quality control and the workflow needed to produce a consistent professional result.

Stage 1 is the foundation of the Royale Alloys Training Academy. It is designed to help learners understand not only how a refurbishment is completed, but why each stage matters. The focus is on repeatable preparation, controlled working methods, finish quality, recognising when a wheel needs a different specialist process, and developing the judgement needed to approach customer work professionally.

WHO IT'S FOR

Designed for people serious about developing professional wheel skills.

✓

People looking to enter alloy wheel refurbishment as a new trade or business service.

✓

Existing valeters, detailers, bodyshop staff or automotive businesses wanting to add wheel refurbishment.

✓

Technicians who have picked up skills informally but want a more structured professional workflow.

✓

Business owners who want to understand the process before investing in equipment or employing technicians.

✓

Learners who intend to progress to specialist powder coating or CNC diamond cutting training.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

What this course is designed to help you develop.

No previous professional alloy refurbishment experience is required. A practical mindset and willingness to work through each stage carefully are more important than arriving with existing trade experience.

01

Assess wheel condition and identify the correct refurbishment route before work begins.

02

Understand the importance of contamination control, cleaning and preparation.

03

Prepare common cosmetic damage for refinishing using a controlled, repeatable process.

04

Understand primers, colour application, clear finish and the reasons defects can occur.

05

Improve masking, edge control, consistency and overall presentation of a refurbished wheel.

06

Recognise work that should be referred for crack repair, welding, diamond cutting or other specialist treatment.

07

Carry out final visual checks and develop a professional quality-control routine.

08

Understand the workflow, customer communication and job-planning considerations behind a commercial refurbishment service.

COURSE CONTENT

A detailed look at the training programme.

01

Wheel Assessment & Job Planning

Start with the wheel in front of you: identify cosmetic damage, finish type, previous repairs and signs that the job may require a specialist process rather than a standard refurbishment.

02

Cleaning, Preparation & Contamination Control

Learn why preparation controls the final result, how contamination can affect coatings and how to create a sound surface before refinishing begins.

03

Cosmetic Damage Preparation

Work through the preparation of common kerb marks, scuffs and surface imperfections, with attention to shape, smoothness and avoiding unnecessary material removal.

04

Priming & Surface Refinement

Understand the role of suitable primers and surface refinement, including how to spot pinholes, sanding marks, edge problems and other defects before colour is applied.

05

Colour Application

Develop a controlled approach to colour application, coverage, consistency and blending the finish with the intended wheel appearance.

06

Clear Finish & Final Appearance

Cover the final protective/appearance stage, common finish defects and the checks required before a wheel is considered complete.

07

Masking, Detail & Presentation

Improve the small details that separate a rushed repair from a professional-looking job, including masking lines, edge finish, cleanliness and presentation.

08

Fault Finding & Rework

Review common problems such as contamination, poor adhesion, visible preparation marks, inconsistent coverage and finish defects, then discuss the correct route to rectify them.

09

Quality Control

Build a repeatable final inspection routine covering appearance, consistency, cleanliness and whether the wheel is genuinely ready to return to the customer.

10

Commercial Workflow

Discuss quoting considerations, customer expectations, job photography, managing turnaround and deciding when specialist repair or replacement should be recommended.
